Do one thing: move more

Our Do One Thing blog series is designed to motivate you to make small changes to your lifestyle that will have a positive impact on your wellbeing. These small changes can eventually add up to make a real difference.

There is no doubt that exercise has a positive effect on the body. Regular exercise can help us to look better, have more energy, be more alert, think clearer, help the body to function better on the inside, be stronger, improve our mood and improve our sleep. And yet it can be so darned hard to find the motivation/time/energy to fit regular exercise into our busy lives.

But exercise doesn’t have to mean attending yoga classes, pounding the streets, hitting the gym, or whatever. If you are simply moving, you are exercising your body to some degree. So start doing one thing: move more!

Walk instead of driving/using public transport. Take the stairs instead of the escalator. Get up from your desk and walk around every once in a while. Stand instead of sit. Do squats while you wait for the kettle to boil. Get off your train/tube/bus a stop early and walk the rest of the way. Go for a walk on your lunch break. Do some lunges while you watch TV. Walk faster than usual. Wherever it is possible – move more.
